Lake City Community Memorial Building Restoration 2020-2021

Many of Lake City’s current and former residents and those living in communities surrounding Lake City have at some time found their way into this Historical structure on Lake City’s square. Since its inception in 1919, the Lake City Memorial Community Building has been the home to many, many events. Over the years the building has stood the test of time and has held up for 100 plus years. Through the efforts of the Lake City – City Council, going back several years, the Council decided to restore the existing building rather than have it torn down. With bids being let, the city’s resident architectural artist, Paul Iverson was selected and the City has forged ahead in a major restoration project of this beautiful structure. Phase One is scheduled to be finished late summer of 2021. Phase One includes the main entrance, the Grand Hall, kitchen and bathrooms improvements. Will include remaining first and second floor windows, a Museum of Lake City Area History, and improvements to the Legion/VFW rooms. Phase Three will add an addition of two added meeting rooms above the north end of the Grand Hall, basement improvements and improvements to the exterior.

This website is dedicated to providing you, the readers, with a look at the progress being made in the building by the contractors. Through CONTRIBUTIONS from readers as yourself through this site. A FUND for FRIENDS OF THE LAKE CITY MEMORIAL COMMUNITY BUILDING has been established at the United Bank of Iowa in Lake City or at anyone of its branches. A dream that began over 100 years ago by the women of Lake City to HONOR those who died serving OUR COUNTRY is once again being restored to its grandest state. Will YOU help us complete this project through your contribution? Thank you. The Committee to Restore Lake City’s Memorial Community Building.
